Our products
Fluorchem offers a line of acrylate, siloxane, and phenolic ether products for use within cosmetics production. Our products include Acrylates, such as Ethyl acrylate and Ethyl methacrylate which are commonly used in eye shadows, mascara, eyebrow pencils, and lipsticks. In addition to Acrylates, we produce silicone polymers being polydimethylsiloxane (dimethicone) and phenolic ethers (phenoxyethanol). These are commonly used in a wide variety of cosmetic products including creams, lotions, sunscreens, tanning solutions, personal lubricants, mascara, soaps, serums, exfoliants, condoms, and lip balms.
Fluorchem Corporation began the production of acrylates, dimethicone, and phenoxyethanol in 2021 and 2022 resulting from a research programme operated under Fluorchem Fluorochemical Operations for use as possible substitutes to fluorochemicals in certain applications. Volume of these chemicals made by production units not being utilised within the research programme was sold commercially to the health and personal care and sexual wellness industries.
Polydimethylsiloxane (dimethicone) & Phenoxyethanol
Dimethicone is a type of silicone polymer consiting of repeating dimethylsiloxy groups. At Fluorchem Corp, dimethicone production process units were finished utilising hydrogen chloride where the final terminated polymer is capped by reaction with trimethylsilyl chloride producing the type of dimethicone fit for consumer applications in cosmetics rather than as an adhesive.
Phenoxyethanol is a phenolic ether. It is produced at Fluorchem Corp. through a base-catalysed nucleophilic substitution reaction involving phenol. The final product is of high purity and suitable for use in cosmetic products for skin contact.
Polydimethylsiloxane, more commonly known as dimethicone is a widely used chemical in the cosmetics industry for its properties as a moisturizer, lubricant, and defoaming agent.
Dimethicone can be found in many cosmetic products such as moisturizing lotion, tanning lotion, soaps, lip balm, shampoo, condoms, and more.
Phenoxyethanol, known in the industry as ethylene glycol monophenyl ether. It is a phenolic ether used widely in the cosmetics industry as a synthetic preservative and as a stabilizer.
Phenoxyethanol can be found in many cosmetic products such as moisturizing lotion, tanning lotion, soaps, conditioners, concealer, blush and more.
Ethyl acrylate & Ethyl methacrylate
Ethyl acrylate and Ethyl methacrylate are both acrylate esters produced by Fluorchem Corporation Fluorochemical Operations as derivations from acrylic acid in acid catalysed esterification. They are both heavily used in the present day cosmetics industry in the production of artificial nails.
Fluorchem Ethyl acrylate & Ethyl methacrylate products are only available by request for commercial and industrial customers. Due to flammability requirements, these are not available as consumer products.
Ethyl acrylate is produced as an ester of acrylic acid. It has a wide variety of uses within cosmetics as a film forming agent. Ethyl acrylate is suitable for this application as it readily undergoes polymerization forming a flexible adherent barrier on the skin and nails.
Ethyl methacrylate is an acrylate ester commonly used in the cosmetics industry for the application of artificial nails. Ethyl methacrylate is suitable for this application due to its excellent adhesion properties and glossy finish making for long lasting, durable nail products.
